Hello! Founder Paul Petch here, and boy oh boy, what seems to be a lifetime in the making, I’m utterly stoked to finally welcome you to Good People Run! S T O K E D !
I’m your average city living, coffee drinking freelancer with a serious love of running, photography, design, and helping others. Running has been part of my life for a long time, and such an inspiring part of my process as a creative. This is my largest personal project to date, that aims to bring together everything that makes me tick creatively, personally and physically. Well, we’ve done it!
I’ve had this ‘creative and entrepreneurial itch’ for sometime now, and like many commercial artists, struggled to work out how to bring it all together, share it, and find a positive way to build a community with the same goals to ‘start giving back’ around it.
GPR is for all of us who give ‘a nod’ to not starting, and then move forward.
I’m planning a series of videos to share the story being GPR, but meanwhile here is an article on my career as a running photographer from 2011 to now that shares some insight. I have a personal philosophy that by giving back to others in small ways, and trying to be the best that I can be in business and life, people then give back also.
It does not need to be a monetary ‘thing’, simply something that helps someone else. This approach resonated with so many other people when I launched the Good People Run idea, that it really blew my mind. I just knew it was going to work with such confidence in the idea.
Starting is the hardest part
Some might say that the concept of mixing all of my creative and personal loves in life with running, makes no sense, and that no one else is doing it, or what’s the point? Well, undeterred here we are, and sharing my best idea and project yet.
I’m so glad that I ignored the reasons not to start. It has not been easy, but as a runner (or supporter of a runner) we all know about those voices, people and reasons that tell us to not start. GPR is for all of us who give ‘a nod’ to not starting, and then move forward. GPR is for everyone who is involved with this amazing sport, and running culture.
So, yes…welcome to the Good People Run project!
First things first, what’s all the ‘giving back’ about? Well the success of Good People Run lies within our collective of inspiring athletes, business people, story tellers, event organisers and creatives, who work together with volunteers and supporters to enable events, donations and acts of kindness. We have various ways of giving back and include fundraising events, donating to KidsCan 5% of our online sales revenue, and volunteering time or creative resources. You can find out in more detail about how we are giving back here.
We are starting out small, but with big plans to offer more clever ways to give back through the culture of running, so will always welcome collaborations, support and ideas from people who feel the same way as us. Please email me (Paul) directly here if you want to join us, or see how to get involved here.
Are you an artist who wants to help? Be involved with a community that will grow? Sell your work and give back a little? More details for creatives and getting involved is here.
You might be a solo street 5km speedster, group hugging trail runner, lunchtime quick park jogger, 26.2 mile marathon lover (42.1648KM’s) or aspiring longer ultra distance fanatic. What about a passionate supporter? The unsung hero on the side lines, a sandwich maker at local crit gatherings, cow bell clanger above the clouds, that volunteer standing out in the rain and heat making sure events run safely, and of course the random “you are doing great” shouter.
WE are passionate and excited about where GPR will go and by the response so far, so are many others.
Well, what ever motivates you to put one foot in front of the other, or be involved with running culture in any way we welcome you and your story. With incredible tales, people, events, art, creativity and running centric news at your fingertips, think of Good People Run as a personal concierge for modern running life and culture.
So, without rambling on any further, I’d like to introduce to you GPR’s collective of athletes, artists, designers, photographers, every day heroes, writers, respected professionals, and game changers over here.
WE are passionate and excited about where GPR will go and by the response so far, so are many others. We look forward to sharing the journey, and thank you very very much for your support making this idea become a reality.
As only startup businesses know, getting from idea to ‘real world’ is a long and sometimes lonely road. I’d particularly like to thank and acknowledge my wife Amy who continues to be my number one supporter and believer, Sonny my main man, Kyra who backed the GPR idea from day one, and inspires me more than she will ever know, and Michelle who truly inspires me to be a better person in business and life. Also a big ‘high five’ the collective who have helped this project get off it’s shaky knees and start putting one foot in front of the other.
WE DID IT !
