His reputation precedes him. Gediminas Grinius is a Lithuanian trail running superstar with a strong history of competitive ultra wins and results all over the globe.
In 2015 Gediminas won the Transgrancanaria and UTMF (Ultra Trail Mont Fuji), took 4th place at the Western States Endurance Run, then second place in the prestigious Ultra Trail World Tour rankings. 2016 was also full of strong results: Vibram Hong Kong 100, UTMB®, Transgrancanaria, Lavaredo Ultra Trail (LUT) and Diagonale des Fous. Gediminas was then crowned Ultra World Trail champion.
Working for NATO is Gediminas day job, wisely placed in between his training runs. How does this father of two find time to train for and compete the world’s top ultra-marathons, and claim the world title in 2016? The more time I spend with high performing athletes the more I respect their ability to do so much, to be good people, and to keep it all together. Kudos.
I got to hear about Gediminas visit through Altra Running NZ who are a sponsor. The more I read about this fantastic athlete, coach and Yogi, the more I wanted to meet and photograph him. With a visit to NZ to race on the weekend at the Tarawera Ultra and adventuring with Auckland based Ultra Legend Andrius Ramonas (and great photographer by the way – who GPR are featuring soon) we managed to cross paths and meet at Mount Vic in Auckland City.
Here are a few frames to accompany a future feature of Gediminas story. Good luck on the weekend at the Tarawera my friend.
