The question of ‘why’ comes to the surface every time that I meet people keen to join the GPR project. Well for me it’s pretty simple, I love the notion of working for my experiences and ‘moments’ that matter in my life. Running is a vessel for me to explore what I cherish and seek in this life of routine and material trappings. Good People Run is the catalyst for me to explore and connect with my photography.
During the Summer of 2012 I headed with Salomon athlete Anna Frost and ambassadors Grant Guise and Matt Bixley to Mount Taranaki on a record breaking mission at 2600M.
We don’t plan on running this design again so the small numbers ‘in the wild’ are very unique and exclusive. Photos by Paul Petch & Ethan Lowry for the GPR memoirs :) Our next range of gear is currently being finalised and we will be asking for pre-orders and interest soon!
Over the Summer I had the pleasure of following two guys, Chris and Sindre who set their own goals to run the full length of the 75KM Hillary Trail in a day for the love of running and to push their limits. With no real prior long distance experience, they had their eyes on the unsupported trail record at the time, which was 9.09hrs
On the weekend Ethan, Carolyn, and I (Paul) headed over to the Motutapu & Rangitoto Islands for the Dual. Just off the Auckland City Coast we camped out and shared our project with athletes, supporters and anyone else that was interested in our story.

Today the outdoors is now primed more than ever for some exploration and discovery. We have no excuses for getting outside
Grit is the persistence of passion and devotion over time to achieve a desired outcome. It’s a characteristic of a runner to make it work. No matter what.
My work as an outdoor sports and lifestyle photographer has it’s ups and downs. It’s utter highs and equal lows. But i’d not have it any other way because when i’m outdoors with my camera, friends, clients, strangers or even alone- I feel free. Best of all I can head off on mini adventures on a regular basis these days, and document this amazing sport, people and nature …all for the LOVE of running.

There is something beautiful about the track. Maybe is nostalgia? Maybe it’s the honest work out with nothing but self propulsion? Either way I love shooting track, and look forward to more stories and moments on it. Recently I’ve spent a fair amount of time photographing at local Auckland tracks with Good People Run brand ambassador and local athlete Sarah Blyde, and here is one of those shoots.
